In the Citrix CTXDOM geekspeak of this year, showed us his new Bitdefender antivirus solution specific for virtualized environments: Security for Virtualized Environments (SVE).
As happened with backup environments (where Veeam and PHD Virtual Backup change the marked), Bitdefender comes to offer a real solution to our optimal antivirus virtual environments.
Goodbye to heavy agents, individual updates, the major impact on resources and problems caused by traditional environments applied to virtual environments. Welcome to the future of virtualization antivirus from Bitdefender hand.
Remember concerned with the presentation of Raul Montala (Pre-Sales Engineer Bitdefender) in the 2012 Madrid geekspeak.
Architecture and Components
Its architecture is very simple a priori. As solutions for virtual environments SVE provides VirtualAppliance based solution for the safety of our VMs running on Host. His deploy is agile and you have an installed and configured environment in only a few hours.
This solution also does not focus solely on protecting virtual environments, it’s characterized by the full protection of the environment from a virtual environment, with greater scalability and the lowest impact possible as resources within our business park plus our physical machines.
SVE include:
Security Virtual Appliance (SVA)
The SVA and centralizes much of the functionality on a single dedicated virtual appliance on each physical host.
Security Console (SC)
Virtual Appliance control with web interface for EVS solution. Used to deploy, configure, monitor and manage our antivirus solution.
Silent Agent (SA)
Is lightweight client component.
Installing SVE
SVE receives the benefits of the solutions for virtual environments using a Virtual Appliance, which simplifies the installation and deployment of the product, saving us a lot of time-and having an environment installed and ready to go in minutes.
EVS is supported in the following environments:
• VMware vSphere 5.1, 5.0, 4.1 with VMware vCenter Server 5.1, 5.0, 4.1
• VMware View 5.1, 5.0
• Citrix XenServer 6.0, 5.6 or 5.5 (including Xen Hypervisor)
• Citrix XenDesktop 5.5 or 5.0 (including Xen Hypervisor)
• Citrix VDI-in-a-Box 5.x
• Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 or Windows 2008 R2 (including Hyper-V Hypervisor)
• Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 (including KVM Hypervisor)
• Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM)
• Oracle VM 3.0
Let’s see how to install our new solution on a XenServer environment in minutes.
First we make the Apliance downloading from the page itself BitDefender can download the edition of XenServer, which contain 30 trials.
From XenCenter, we import both appliance.
Once the download, it’s time to configure them.
We recommend reading the installation manual for reviewing product requirements in terms of protection of VMs.
We connect both Apliance console with user / passwd default provided in the administration manuals (administrator / admin).
And proceed to execute the following commands to configure the network as Apliance where we are connected.
To set SC: Run # sc-setup
To configure SVA: Run # sva-setup
Follow specific configuration steps, and once we have this, we are ready to start configuring our «business» and proceed to deploy agents to protect our environment.
Set SC
We open our browser and connect to the IP of SC Apliance through https.
We logon with Default User and after the first request we LOGON, we configure the final user and the SVA appliance.
We set the user name, email address (used for Logon), password, company name, logo, Ip SC, Ip SVA and we will load license. Finished this, we can begin to deploy agents perform.
Installing the Agent Silent
The first point goes through ourselves in «Computers»> «Installation Area»
The first thing we will do is a manual installation on your machine SilentAgent management. Once, after a while, it will be able to perform a rolling discover the Windows VMs within our network and enable a scheduled deployment to the Agent installation.
We go to the installation area, visualize the installation link and we can install the agent manually.
Installed it, we can see in the «Team Area» the server where you installed the Agent.
After a reasonable time, we can see how the agent makes a discovery of Windows VMs Lifted where you can install the Agent.
From here, simply select the VMs where we do deploy, select «Quick Tasks»> «Install Client»
SVA Seleccionaos from where we will install the packages containing the module and the user will use to deploy the agent.
Finished, we generate a task to take care of performing deploy it. Once we see our VMs finaliada on managed machines.
From this moment, and we can focus on Policy settings to manage devices (individual or group), Reports to generate environmental status, delegate groups, reviewing logs.
All Enterprise solution for virtualized environments, easy to deploy and configure, and it will recommend a solution for any virtual environment, where this considering migrating traditional environment, given the problems caused or for those who are thinking about starting to consolidate their environments traditional physical environments.
Just what I needed.
