#XenServer: USB as SR

enero 23rd, 2013 | Posted by cristiansan in CLI | XenServer

Like some IT Professionals I have my own lab in my home. This servers are used in sometimes for education and i need to re-install my lab sometimes.

After clases, is time to re-install all the lab. Host hypervisor (if i needed install it), and all components to my Citrix Lab and other services.

My home lab is small, perfect for labs, but i don’t have external repository for do backups and be quickly for recover all the enviroment.

One solution for this, is use a external USB for do the Export/Import actions. But, how can i configure a external USB for use as a SR. Folow this Steps…

  1. Plug the USB drive to your XenServer
  2. Enter the Command Shell (CLI)
  3. Type: fdisk –l for list all drives in XenServer.

Normally, the las drive is the USB pluged.

Create a new partition in USB drive with Linux (83) system files & format the USB partition in Ext3 with:

mkfs –t ext3 /dev/Device_Disk]

New, create your new SR

xe sr-create name-label=»USB drive» content-type=user type=lvm device-config:device=/dev/[Device_fdisk

Now, open XenCenter and you can see the USB Drive in the SR Pool.
